2007-2008 League Week 17
Congratulations again to Broken Hearts, the Division I Champions. Once again they had all four players in double figures as they saw off the challenge from Nomads, their only serious rivals this season. Allsorts continued their late revival in beating Old Itonians to finish in third place. Kevin Ashman achieved a full house in this game, his third (!) of the season. Altogether there were 12 full houses this season, compared with 5 last season and only 2 in 2005/06. I leave you to decide whether we are getting better, or the questions are getting easier. In the other games, Aldersgate and Atletico shared the points in a close struggle at the Hand and Shears, with all four Aldersgate players in double figures, while in the meeting of the two relegated sides, Barb had a comfortable win over Telstars. Top score in the Division was by Gavin Fuller of Allsorts with 20 points.
Like the New England Patriots, Waterloo Sunset fell one game short of a perfect season in Division II, losing by one point to Gray Monks, despite being in the lead for 7 rounds. However this win was not quite enough for Gray Monks, as Pineapple beat Belly in a close fought game to secure the runners up spot, and join Waterloo Sunset in Division I next season. For the second week running Ovalytes only needed three men to defeat Rosslyn Park in another tight finish. Perhaps they should stick to playing with three in future! And in the meeting of the bottom two, Accrington Cylindricals saved their best performance for the end of the season, as they demolished London Scottish to move off the bottom, and leave London Scottish with the Wooden Spoon. Best score of the night was Tony Sherwood's 26 points for Ovalytes.
