2007-2008 League Week 14

Week 13    Week 1522 Jan 2008

There were four close results in Division I, with perhaps the most notable being at the One Tun, where Telstars were rewarded for their persistence with their first win of the season against Barb, who now join them in relegation. Aldersgate are proving to be Broken Hearts bête noire. Having beaten them earlier in the season, Aldersgate held Broken Hearts to a draw, with Broken Hearts needing to answer the last question of the game to salvage a point. Congratulations to Tom Dineen of Aldersgate, who achieved a full house in this game. Nomads held out against Atletico to stay in second place, while third placed Old Itonians were beaten by a resurgent Allsorts. Allsorts and Atletico are now level on points, so to decide who should play in the top half of the play-offs and who in the bottom, the Committee (ex its Allsorts and Atletico members) decided, in advance of the game, to split them on total points scored. Therefore Allsorts with 671 points are placed above Atletico on 669, (although I must point out that Atletico beat Allsorts in both League meetings, that Atletico leads on points difference by 55 to 43, and Atletico have answered 250 two-pointers to Allsorts 227 - not that I am bitter or anything). Top scorers in the Division were both in the same game: Sean Carey of Broken Hearts and Tom Dineen of Aldersgate with 19 points.

In Division II Waterloo Sunset clinched promotion, and the Division II title, with a comprehensive victory over Accrington Cylindricals. Congratulations to Waterloo Sunset, who bounce back to Division I after just one season. Of the other promotion contenders, Pineapple and Gray Monks both had comfortable victories, against Rosslyn Park and London Scottish respectively, and remain locked together on 20 points. Congratulations go to Martin Smith, who scored a full house in Pineapple's win. In the week's final game, Belly's chances of promotion appear to have disappeared with their narrow defeat by the Ovalytes. Top score of the week was the 23 points scored by Peter Ediss of the Gray Monks.
