2008-09 Finals Night
Another successful season's quizzing came to a thrilling climax at
The Counting House on 21 April, with the finals of the Plate, the
Brain of London and the
All London Cup. Thanks to all those who helped to run the evening, and in particular to Andrew Frazer for acting as MC, and to Charly Fitzpatrick for taking the
photos.

The Plate saw a meeting of two of the League's oldest teams, with Accrington Cylindricals starting with a 12 point lead over Atletico. The margin remained the same for the first two rounds, but then Atletico started to catch up, and a 10-1 score on round 4 saw Atletico reach half way with a point advantage. Accies rallied briefly, but a 9-2 margin in round 7 put the game out of their reach, and Atletico ran out comfortable winners. Details:
Fresh from success in the Plate, defending Champion Robert Willer faced a challenge from three Broken Hearts in Ian Bayley, Mark Grant & Jesse Honey. The
questions, from our friends at the
MQL, did not play to Mark's strengths, and he quickly fell off the pace, but Ian, Jesse and Robert remained locked together throughout. Three of the finalists were all still in with a chance going into the last round, with Olav in the lead, a point ahead of Kevin. However when the smoke cleared at the end of the game, Robert had just done enough to hold on to the title, with Jesse finishing as runner up.
Details:
Robert Willer 13,
Jesse Honey 12,
Ian Bayley 11,
Mark Grant 3.

Two of the disappointed Broken Hearts regrouped for the Cup Final, where they faced the newly crowned Division II Champions Pericardium. In an impressive display of team quizzing, Broken Hearts steadily eroded Pericardium's starting score advantage, and took the lead in round 6, going on to win the Cup for the first time. All four Broken Hearts were in double figures, and they achieved a full house in rounds 3, 6 & 8. Details:

And finally. Don't forget that the
Charity Quiz, which had to be postponed in February because of the weather, will take place next Tuesday, 28 April, back at
The Counting House.
